Cast Iron Cookware

Ever since the dark ages human beings have been using cast iron cookware for cooking. When it comes to modern ages there are a lot of kitchen utensils now. But still cast iron cookware has a place of its own. If we took the number of kitchen utensils that have been used today, we can see that cast iron cookware still remains in the first position.

One reason is that it has the capacity to cook evenly because of its heavy surface and also it can cook things even in very small flame. Even though it takes more energy than modern cooking utensils with thin surface, it has the capacity to cook good food once when it gets the necessary heat.

Also for some food materials like omelets cooked with flavor, fried hamburgers, and seared and browned steak there is nothing better than cast iron cookware. This is available in almost all kitchen utensil shops and even in some trade fairs. But certainly it needs a little more care than the modern made kitchen utensil. And that is one reason why it is not so popular in this fast modern world.

One problem with cast iron cookware is that it can be covered with grease almost very easily. But one advantage here is that it can be cleaned with any type of cleaning materiel, even with sand paper. But if you do not want to punish your cast iron cookware so hard try some vinegar mixed with water and soak it.

Put it like that for one night. You will get surprising results. That is you will be surprised where the grease has gone. You can try another trick also. Cast iron can stand any kind of cleaning. If your oven has that self-cleaning cycle then try it by putting your cast iron inside it and turn on the machine.

With the cleaning of your oven you could find that your cast iron pan also get cleaned. But with every hard cleaning this cast iron pan will lose its nonstick qualities and so it will tend to strip off the smooth oiled surface. So a process called seasoning can be done to this nonstick surface each time after this hard cleaning.

Seasoning is the process of coating the iron pan with bacon grease, both inside and outside and after that for some time cook it in your oven. After seasoning you will get a nice kitchenware that can do wonders in cooking.
